Construction of the Moray West offshore wind farm has reached a significant milestone with the arrival of the first nine 108-metre turbine blades. These blades, manufactured at the Siemens Gamesa Blade Factory in Hull, represent the first batch of a total of 180 blades destined for the project.
Moray West is working closely with Siemens Gamesa to ensure the successful installation of all wind turbine components. The project has already seen the successful installation of the two offshore transformer modules, further demonstrating the collaborative efforts underway.
OW Ocean Winds, the developer behind Moray West, is committed to supporting the local supply chain and fostering green jobs. The project highlights the significant employment opportunities associated with the renewable energy sector, as evidenced by the over 1,000 jobs created at the Hull Blade Factory alone.
The arrival of the turbine blades marks another step forward for the Moray West project, which is expected to generate its first power in 2024. Once completed, the wind farm will be a major contributor to Scotland's clean energy goals, providing enough power to meet the needs of over 1 million homes.
